The Clifford and District Horticultural Society is asking the Town of Minto to facilitate installation of welcome signs at three unmarked village entrances.
Society president Vic Palmer said the organization, which provided landscaping around two Highway 89 entrance signs installed by the town in 2016, would like to see smaller signs installed at entrances along Wellington Road 2, east of the village and the Howick Minto Townline and Fordwich Line on the west side.
Palmer asked council to consider installing signs saying “Clifford” or “Welcome to Clifford.”
“The two large signs have been landscaped and planted with flowers to beautify our town and we would like to do a more modest planter or planting to welcome visitors and residents coming from the other three directions.”
Deputy mayor Ron Faulkner pointed out the locations are all on county roads.
At CAO Bill White’s suggestion, council agreed to direct staff to approach the county with the request.
“The county will probably tell us what they may like us to have, but we’ll work toward the more modest (design),” said White.
