Society also had successful tree planting event

For many years the Elora and Salem Horticultural Society, in partnership with the township, has held an annual tree planting event.

This year the focus was on celebrating the Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee.

On April 14, 60 bare root sugar maples, Acer saccharum, were planted by members of society on the cemetery grounds along County Road 7.

The event was a terrific success due to the efforts and cooperation of everyone involved: the tree planting organizers, the work team and representatives of the municipal works, horticultural society and the parks departments.

While the trees grow, the community will benefit as they beautify the environment, help to moderate the climate, reduce pollution levels, and provide habitat for critters.

Annual plant sale

Spring continues to evolve, and horticultural members anticipate their annual plant sale scheduled for the morning of May 12, between 8 and 11am.

A diverse variety of plants and bags of compost will be available at the Salem School House parking lot.

If anyone has plants that need digging that they would like donate, contact Claude Lacroix, president at 519 843-3131.
