Sixth annual challenge to help stop smoking

More than 378 people in the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region have already committed to quit smoking this March by registering for the sixth annual Driven to Quit challenge.

If anyone is up to the challenge there is time – the deadline to register is Feb. 28.

The Driven to Quit challenge is a health promotion campaign that encourages Ontario adults who are daily smokers or tobacco users to quit for the month of March with the support of a “buddy.”

Those who have already quit but were still using tobacco for at least ten months in 2010, might still be eligible to enter. Entrants who are smoke-free for March have a chance to win a 2011 Honda CR-Z hybrid or Honda Insight hybrid, or one of two $5,000 vacation getaways.

To register for the challenge, Ontarians 19 and over can visit www.DrivenToQuit.ca. It takes planning and effort to quit smoking or using tobacco. People can increase their chances of quitting with help from Smokers’ Helpline at 1-877-513-5333, or online at www.smokershelpline.ca.
