ARTHUR – Mark and Lisa Townsend have done it again.
For the second consecutive year, Silver Fox Distillery has been named the Grand National Champion in the U.S. Open Spirits competition.
The husband and wife duo won five medals for their spirits (two gold and three silver).
The distillers were declared champions in 2022 — at that time making them the first Canadian distillery to win the honour in the competition’s 14-year history.
This year the Townsends have made competition history yet again.
“Not only are we the first Canadian distillery to win, but we are the first spirit distillery in North America to ever win back to back,” the Townsends wrote to the Advertiser.
Entirely new creations were entered for this year’s competition, the Townsends noted.
“This is something the U.S. Open has never seen any distillery do before.”
In addition to the two gold and three silver medals, the distillery also won a gold for their “Cobra Chicken” Canadian Whisky, the distiller’s first barrel of Canadian Whisky.
Judging for the competition happened in Ohio with the finals held in New York.
The competition works with the Niagara College Teaching Distillery, and final-round judges included instructors from Niagara College, as well as industry experts from the surrounding area, according to organizers.
The Grand National Champion award crowns the Townsends as “the top spirit distillery in North America.”
Silver Fox was also a participant The Craft Gin Festival in Elora earlier this month.
