Santa coming to town

Santa Claus is coming to town and it seems he will be visiting Wellington North’s two largest communities in alphabetical order.

On Oct. 18, council passed two bylaws following letters from parade organizers in Arthur and Mount Forest.

The Arthur Opti-Mrs. Club requested permission to hold its parade on Nov. 27 at 7pm.

The parade is expected to last 45 minutes on a route starting at the Arthur Public School on Conestoga Street.

As in the past, the parade would travel south on Smith and George Streets (Highway 6) through the downtown before heading to Charles, Isabella, Tucker, and Walton Streets, then back to the school.

Council agreed to pass a bylaw temporarily closing the streets from 6:30 to 8:15pm.

The Mount Forest parade is slated for the following Friday night. The Mount Forest Lions Club asked the main street be closed from 6:30 to 8pm.

Though the parade starts at the Mount Forest Fire Hall this year, the route will be slightly different than in the past.

The parade will head down Main Street to King Street, then east to Fergus Street then south on Fergus, where the parade floats disembark.

Santa will be at the St. Mary’s Hall and Lions club members will have safety vests and communication radios at the corner to ensure pedestrian safety while crossing Queen Street.

Councillors agreed to a bylaw for the temporary street closings in Mount Forest as well.
