Salem kindergarteners visit Wild Tart in Elora
ELORA – Tessa Heffernan’s kindergarten class at Salem Public School has been taking a range of food-centred trips into the community thanks to a $500 provincial experiential learning grant.
On May 28, Dominique Wild welcomed the class to the upstairs dining space at Wild Tart in Elora.
“We had the whole area to ourselves,” Heffernan told the Advertiser.
“She had a huge table set up where all of the children could fit at it for decorating. There were trays of cupcakes and each child had their own fancy bowl of sprinkles for decorating.”
The kindergartners helped ice with icing bags, decorated the cupcakes, and then enjoyed a treat and made an extra to take home.
“Dominique generously donated the experience to our class and said it was a thank-you to the community for all of their support over the years and particularly in the last few months,” Heffernan said.
“It was such a great community-building experience for our class to have everyone sitting together in a fancy restaurant enjoying a treat and was part of my dream for the project to be able to have the students experience that. We got to talk about manners in a restaurant before visiting as well.”
The class’ final trip will be to the Centre Wellington Food Bank, New Orleans Pizza and the splash pad on June 22.
