Ross-Zuj a full voting board member of Federation of Canadian Municipalities

Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj is now a voting board member at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

Wellington County Warden Chris White made the announcement at the Jan. 27, county council session. He said Ross-Zuj was appointed to the board.

“She’s been on the board previously as a committee member, but this gives her full voting rights,” White said.

He added, “The FCM board delivers key municipal messages directly to the federal government. Joanne’s knowledge, experience and effective leadership make her an excellent addition to this important board and gives a voice to Wellington County.

“If there’s anything you want out of the feds, there she is,” White quipped, pointing in Ross-Zuj’s direction.

Ross-Zuj will serve on the board for the remainder of the 2010-11 term.

“I look forward to continuing the impressive work of previous FCM boards and committees, and working collaboratively with the government of Canada on key issues that municipalities across the country are facing,” she said.

The 16-member FCM board of directors is made up of elected municipal officials and affiliate members from all regions and communities across Canada. It meets quarterly to discuss key municipal issues, set policy priorities, and serve as a support system for municipalities bringing forward their messages to the government of Canada.

With over 14 years of municipal government experience, Ross-Zuj has previously been a member of several FCM committees.  She has also been the warden of Wellington County, currently chairs the County of Wellington roads committee and was one of the founding members of the county’s municipal economic development group.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities was established in 1901, and has more than 1,600 members, including Canada’s largest cities, small rural and urban areas and 18 provincial and territorial municipal associations.
