Rockwood FC donates $20,000 to township

Rockwood FC has donated $20,000 towards the new Rockmosa Park in Rockwood.

Club treasurer Stephen Pullen was at the May 15 council meeting to present the cheque.

“Soccer has become a major sport in this town and with the advent of five new fields coming, we see great things lying ahead,” Pullen told council.

“We also made the commitment to you that we as a club would continue to look for ways to help finance and provide some revenue to the town to help offset some of the enormous costs that go with these projects.”

Last year the club donated $10,000 and this year it’s donating $20,000.

“We’re continuing to look at ways to generate more revenue (so) that we hopefully will be able to present you with more money at some point in time in the future,” Pullen said.

“We think it’s important to continue to demonstrate our support for your support,  so thank you very much.”

This year Pullen said the Rockwood FC is anticipating about 600 kids will register for the soccer program. The club is offering three elite teams again.

“The whole quality of the program continues to grow and that’s one of the other things we’re looking at,” said Pullen.

“You know as more homes come and more residents come here we’re looking at upping the program making it more professional and better quality for all the kids.”

Mayor Chris White said the club caters to almost half of the 1,500 children living in Rockwood. He also thanked the club.

“Twenty-thousand dollars is a lot of money. It’s not easy to raise money these days because everybody’s got a need and everybody’s got a want,” White said. “I think some of the work that you especially have done over the past five, six, seven, eight years … we can see some success. We’re finally getting there and we really appreciate your participation.”
