Robert McFarlane named 2016 Puslinch Senior of the Year

Robert McFarlane is Puslinch Township’s 2016 Senior of the Year.

The award was presented by Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever on June 13.

“June is Seniors’ Month and one of the pleasurable things council gets to do is single out someone in our community who we think has made an exceptional contribution,” said Lever.

“This year’s recipient is Robert McFarlane. Robert has been a constant contributor to the well-being of Puslinch … from his involvement in organizing Remembrance Day ceremonies and special dinners for veterans … his focus on this group has been unwavering.”

Lever added McFarlane is an active member of the Crown Cemetery Board – donating his time to the board and doing facility maintenance.

McFarlane was a long serving member of the Puslinch Optimist Club and continues to support their activities, Lever said.

“Having spent many hours working alongside Robert in the Optimist food trailer, setting up the fall fair, or other Optimist activities, I know of his dedication to the township and I am very pleased to be presenting this award tonight.”

McFarlane said, “It’s an honour to receive this recognition for things you do over time.”

He quipped “the only part I’m not too crazy about is the senior part.” In thanking council for the honour, he noted his father was also a recipient of a similar award.

“I appreciate this,” he added.
