RIDE program leads to marijuana charge

On Oct. 19 at about 12:38am Wellington County OPP officers were conducting RIDE spot checks on Highway 7 near the Guelph-Eramosa/Woolwich Town Line here.

Police investigated the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet that entered into the check point and allege that officers detected “the strong odour” of what they suspect was fresh marijuana inside the vehicle.

Officers also observed a small amount of marijuana on the front seat as well as on the driver’s pants, police say.

The male was placed under arrest and the vehicle searched.  Police seized a substantial quantity of suspected marijuana, along with what they describe as “drug packaging material.”

Brad Wilson, 27, of Kitchener, was charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking over 3kg contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

He is to appear in Guelph court on Nov. 21.
