RIDE kick-off

It was a busy first night for members for the Wellington OPP Festive RIDE Team, who set out with the objective of proactively seeking out and investigating drivers who choose to drive while impaired by the consumption alcohol and/or drugs.

The RIDE team will be setting up at various times and locations throughout the County in order to maximize their effectiveness.

Charges and suspensions the first night included:

– 475 vehicles checked;

– 20 approved screening device tests (drivers who consumed alcohol but breath samples were less than 50 mgs);

– one over 80mg charge;

– five three-day administrative driver’s license suspensions; and

– three Liquor License Act charges.

OPP asks drivers to be smart and do their part. If they have consumed alcohol they shouldn’t drive, and they should call 911 if they suspect a driver is impaired.
