Renowned chef brings deli delights to fundraiser

With the winter winds comes a need for warmth and the Wellington Centre for Sustainable Agriculture invites  people to warm up with some thermal love of a gourmet deli-style dinner prepared by Chef Zane Caplansky on Jan. 17.

The deli-style dinner is a fundraiser to support the Food School culinary program at Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS), “helping students learning to grow really good food.”

The staff and students of the Food School are teaming up with Caplansky, notably the owner Caplansky’s Delicatessen, on College Street in Toronto and the infamous Thunder Thelma’s, the Deli Truck that brings fresh smoked meats to the streets of Toronto, and featured on the CBC’s Dragon’s Den television show.

Caplansky’s been referred to by Gourmet Magazine as “a new breed of deli men who look to the farmers’ market for inspiration.” Adam Sachs of the New York Times lists Caplansky as one of the “farmers, chefs, butchers and restauranteurs credited with turning the city into a carnivore’s dinning destination.”

Caplansky will truck on through to the Elora Legion for an unforgettable feast on Jan. 17.

In addition to dinner, an Ontario wine or micro-brewery menu will also be thoughtfully presented, at an extra cost of $20, with a focus on each individual course.

Tickets for the dinner are $50, available at Sante Natural Food Emporium  in Elora or Fraberts Fresh Food in Fergus.

Seating is limited and all proceeds go to supporting  the Food School at CWDHS.
