Reduced flows downstream of Shand Dam

Anglers take note that the Grand River Conservation Authority has reduced flows downstream of Shand Dam to approximately three cubic metres per second (m3/s).

The flow has been reduced in order to facilitate maintenance and repairs at Bissell Dam in Elora.

The maintenance on the Bissell Dam should be completed this week and flows will return to a normal late this week or over the weekend.

Unfortunately the reduction is taking place now, even though it is the last week of trout season which closes at the end of the month.

This means there is less water in the Grand River Tail Water Fishery, which extends from Shand Dam through Fergus and Elora to West Montrose.

Flows were also reduced in this section of river during the week after Labour Day in order to facilitate a fisheries enhancement project being completed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry upstream of West Montrose.
