Rail crossing discussions on track in Puslinch

Warning signals or gates may be in the future for the railway crossing on Watson Road in Puslinch Township.

In his report to council on Nov. 2, roads supervisor Don Creed said he sent correspondence from  Tom Sagaskie, of the Guelph Junction Railway.

As a result of those talks, Creed did not believe Hume Road would meet the criteria to install traffic signals at the crossing. “There’s just no way.”

Creed added that Sagaskie is certain that Watson Road would qualify because of the angle of the track.

“He’s pretty confident that if that one went through a study, it would come back with a recommendation for some sort of protection.”

“As far as brush cutting or sight line issues, Creed said [the railway] would need to be contacted because it is their property.”

He added Sagaskie seems willing to discuss other issues as well.

Mayor Dennis Lever said some of the items should be considered as the roads budget is being developed.

Original discussions at council last month included railway crossings at Hume, Arkell and Watson.
