Questions on Pier properties

Although questions arose on the Pier Properties development at McLean Road West, it seems concerns were more about previous developer than the current owner.

Council discussion Sept. 7 centred on the current Trans-X property on McLean Road.

Pulsinch Mayor Dennis Lever asked if there were problems when the buildings were first constructed, and if there was an issue of truck storage – or a containment building.

He said he remembered something about storing trucks on the site.

Clerk Brenda Law said there are trucks on the site because it is a trucking terminal, but there were no problems with the current development.

Councillor Susan Fielding wondered if the mayor was thinking about a previous proposal for the site – before Trans-X. Fielding said it was a long time ago because she was just coming to council as the matter was going before the Ontario Municipal Board. “But that company pulled out so [that proposal] never came to fruition.” Law said the previous proposal was not quite a salvage yard, but could have included vehicles written off because of an accident would end up at that site pending an insurance company decision.

Fielding said it might have involved removing the good parts from those vehicles and washing. But she added it was also an American company involved in the proposal, and it pulled out. Puslinch council subsequently passed a resolution to accept the site plan agreement for the phase 3 development of the lands.
