Queen”™s Park meeting part of push for sustainable water

Last week, Centre Wellington Mayor Kelly Linton, CAO Andy Goldie and managing director of infrastructure services Colin Baker met with environment minister Glen Murray, ministry staff and MPP Ted Arnott to discuss the township’s goal of having long-term water sustainability to meet current and future growth.

In August the township attempted to buy the Middlebrook property, but was unsuccessful when Nestlé activated its purchasing clause.

The township has continued to work with all parties to protect the water for future generations.

On Oct. 17, the province proposed a two-year moratorium on new and expanded water bottling operations as well as stricter rules for renewals of existing permits.

Proposed rules would reduce the duration of permit renewal applications as well as require increased public transparency, new operating guidelines, mandatory reductions on water taking during drought, and further scientific studies.
