Puslinch to re-submit application

Puslinch Mayor Brad Whitcombe hopes  to receive some good News very soon on two grant applications to help cover planning for the “Big Lake” proposal.

The township is investigating the possibility of transforming several gravel pits on a 1,200 acre parcel along both sides of Concession 2 into one large lake measuring 700 acres in size.

In January the township received word that a $385,000  grant application under Ontario’s Rural Economic Development (RED) program was denied.

But last week Mayor Brad Whitcombe said RED officials have asked the township to re-submit the application, which would provide $193,000 in funding for the project. Whitcombe said he doubts the municipality would be asked to re-submit the paper work just to be turned down again.

And officials at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) wanted to talk to township officials late last week, the mayor added, to discuss Puslinch’s $400,000  application through the Green Municipal Fund offered by the FCM.

Whitcombe said the FCM had more questions about the application, which would see the township receive $200,000 in funding.

He hopes the township will have positive News to report very soon about both applications.
