Puslinch launches survey on proposed user fees, charges

PUSLINCH – Township officials here have launched an annual community engagement survey regarding municipality’s proposed user fees and charges.

Citizens can provide feedback at EngagePuslinch.ca.

“Every year as part of the annual budget process, the Township of Puslinch reviews its user fees and charges for services offered to the community,” states a Sept. 9 press release.

“In order to provide quality services and programs, the township depends on revenue from property taxes and user fees and charges.”

Many township services are funded by property taxes, but in some cases, the municipality charges a direct user fee to individuals/organizations benefitting using the service.

Examples of services funded in part or in whole by user fees include:

  • recreational facilities;
  • building permits;
  • planning and development applications;
  • dog and kennel licensing;
  • lottery licensing; and
  • open air burn permits.

“The completion of surveys such as the 2023 Proposed User Fees and Charges Survey helps to provide guidance to council as to what residents prefer when it comes to making decisions about how funds should be sourced to maintain or improve services,” states Mayor James Seeley.

“I continue to encourage residents to join the conversation and have their voices heard as council considers [2023 fees and charges].”

The survey will be active at EngagePuslinch.ca, until Oct. 7.

An electronic public information meeting will take place on Sept. 28 at 7pm to receive public comments.
