Puslinch kids get crash course in cycling safety

PUSLINCH – More than a dozen children of various ages participated in the Optimist Club of Puslinch’s annual Bike Rodeo on May 11 at the Puslinch firehall.

The event, billed as a “free bicycle safety course for kids,” featured an OPP auxiliary unit presentation on traffic regulations, bicycle hand signals, and general bicycling safety guidelines.

A representative from the Brain Injury Association Waterloo Wellington also spoke about the importance of wearing a helmet when cycling, and on how to ensure a helmet fits correctly. Free helmets were available at the event.

Following the presentations, kids got the chance to practise their skills – including balancing, hand signals, turns and stops – at various stations set up in the firehall parking lot.
