Puslinch doesn”™t share Centre Wellington”™s desire for municipal water prioritization

Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever says Centre Wellington should “keep it to their own municipality” when it comes to concerns about water.

Lever made the comments on July 18 while Puslinch councillors were reviewing correspondence from Centre Wellington asking the province to prioritize municipally-owned water systems.

Centre Wellington has asked the province to extend the provincial moratorium on new permits to take water for commercial water bottlers to 2023.

Centre Wellington also requested that if the moratorium could not be extended province-wide, it be extended within the boundaries of Centre Wellington.

The township also requested that the province’s review include “the prioritization of municipal water supplies over other uses.”

Lever explained there are municipal wells from another region (Guelph) located in Puslinch, which does not have municipal wells.

The mayor expressed concern as to what would happen if those wells were given priority over everything else.

Councillors Matthew Bulmer and Susan Fielding expressed similar sentiments.
