Puslinch”™s anti-icing program is working

Puslinch public works director Don Creed believes the recently initiated anti-icing program is working on local roads.

In his report to council on Jan. 9, Creed said the program is now up and running.

“We applied a bunch of material on Dec. 24, prior to the small storm on Dec. 26 and 27.” He said there were still a lot of remnants of the spray from the few days prior.

“There were a lot of positive results from doing the spray,” Creed said. He added the results would have been better had the anti-icing been done one day sooner.

“The program is here. It’s another tool in the toolbox when the weather conditions are right,” Creed said.

Mayor Dennis Lever asked if the recent thaw would have any impact on the roads. Lever also asked if there was anything that can be done to minimize the impact on gravel roads as a result of the freeze-thaw cycle.

Creed noted graders were out with very light ice blades to deal with the snow pack which still existed in some parts of the township. Part of that was due to forecasts for rain predicted later that week.

“As far as this current warm spell … I don’t think we will see a whole lot of problems,” Creed said, adding the warm spell was likely to be short.
