Police urge drivers to slow down

Members of the West Region OPP continue to shake their heads in disbelief, as officers continue to respond to collisions across the region.

The common denominator for all collisions investigated by OPP has been speed.

Some drivers don’t understand what “too fast” is, said OPP Sergeant Dave Rektor.

“If you’re driving the posted speed limit on a snow covered roadway, you’re driving too fast,” Rektor added.

“It’s hard to understand why drivers won’t slow down. It’s hard to comprehend why drivers pass other drivers on a snow covered lane, when two other lanes of the same highway are cleared.”

OPP are urging all motorists to slow down when snow or ice are present on roadways.

Police and emergency workers everywhere remind all drivers that they are required by law to slowdown and pull to the left of emergency vehicle on the side of the road.
