Police looking for clues after hit and run involving teen bicyclist

SOUTHGATE – Police are looking for help to find the person responsible after a vehicle struck a bicyclist here and did not stop following the collision.

On May 31 at about 8:20pm, emergency crews responded to the scene at a Southgate Township address on the north side of Highway 89, the boundary road between Wellington North and Southgate.

“It was determined that a 15-year-old was riding their bicycle westbound along the side of the roadway on Highway 89 when they were struck by a motor vehicle from behind,” states a June 1 press release from the Wellington County OPP.

“As a result, the rider was ejected from the bicycle and suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries.

“He was transported to a local area hospital and then transferred a Hamilton hospital for further treatment.”

Police say the vehicle never stopped and was last seen heading westbound on Highway 89.

It is described as a silver older model sedan similar to a Lincoln Town Car or Grand Marquis, which police say will have front passenger side damage.

The OPP is asking anyone living in the area that has surveillance footage that may have captured the vehicle to call police.

Investigators are also asking drivers who would have been travelling through the area with dash cameras to check their footage.
