Police have identified the man found dead inside a house fire here on Monday as resident David Hershey.

Emergency crews responded to the fire on Victoria Street in Palmerston on Dec. 12 at about 2:44pm.

“While [firefighters] battled the blaze and searched the residence, the body of a deceased person was located,” the OPP stated in a Dec. 12 press release.

The body was identified on Dec. 16 as that of Hershey, 46.

Police say the fire is not suspicious, though Wellington County OPP and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal continue to investigate.

A portion of Victoria Street was closed following the blaze, which caused “significant damage” to the home, police stated.
