Police beat: OPP called to Fergus Sportsplex for alleged theft

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Jan. 23 at around 3:45pm, Wellington County OPP attended the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex for a reported theft. 

“It was reported that an individual had been the victim of [a] theft,” Wellington OPP spokesperson Joshua Cunningham wrote in an email.

Police say no weapon was used, and investigators are trying to determine whether a theft in fact occurred.

Driver hit building then fled: OPP

DRAYTON – On Jan. 6, Wellington County OPP responded to a reported hit-and-run collision at a public building on Main Street West here.

Police say that on Jan. 4 at about 7pm, a burgundy SUV “struck a steel pillar, damaging a canopy support.”

A 38-year-old driver from Drayton was charged with failing to report an accident.

No plates, insurance for suspended driver

HARRISTON – On Jan. 14 at about 3:15pm a Wellington County OPP officer monitoring traffic on Elora Street South here stopped the driver of a grey coupe.

A 44-year-old man from Harriston was charged with driving while prohibited, driving while suspended, using unauthorized plates and driving without insurance. He is to appear in Guelph court on March 8.
