Police beat: Fraud charges

WELLINGTON NORTH – On Feb. 7, Wellington County OPP received a report of a fraud.

“The victim advised that their bank card had been lost and that it had been used at several businesses in Wellington North,” police stated in a press release.

“Approximately $300 worth of purchases had been made using the victim’s bank card.”

Courtney Snyder, 38, of Wellington North, was charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000.

She is to appear in Guelph court on April 14.

Five charges

ELORA – On Feb. 18 at about 11:30am, a Wellington County OPP officer patrolling on Metcalfe Street here observed a vehicle that possibly had stolen licence plates.

Martin Abonga Okot, 28, of Elmira, was charged with impaired driving, failure/refusal to comply with a demand for a breath sample, driving while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime under ($5,000) and driving without insurance. He is to appear in Guelph court on April 14.

Stolen Jetta crashed

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Feb. 20 at about 7:30pm, emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision on the 4th Line here.

Wellington County OPP officials say a grey sedan left the roadway at a bridge closure barricade and entered a creek. Three people exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot, police added.

The OPP could not locate the occupants but the investigation revealed the vehicle, a grey four-door Volkswagen Jetta, was stolen out of the Region of Peel.

Truck stolen

GUELPH/ERAMOSA - On Feb. 21 Wellington County OPP received a report about the theft of a vehicle from a residence on the 4th Line here.

“It was reported that sometime after 12am, unknown person(s) stole a red Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck with Ontario licence plate BT22392,” police stated.

Careless driving charge

PUSLINCH – On Feb. 9 at about 4:30pm, emergency crews responded a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 6 South here.

Wellington County OPP officials say three vehicles were involved, and one person suffered minor injuries.

A 36-year-old driver from Burlington was charged with careless driving and is to appear in Guelph court on April 5.

Another one

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – On Feb. 9 at about 9am,  emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 6 at Marden Road here.

Wellington County OPP officials say four vehicles were involved and one person was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 23-year-old driver from Guelph was charged with careless driving and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
