NORTH PERTH – A motorcyclist from Drayton is dead following a two-vehicle crash here on Tuesday.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, on Perth Line 88 at Perth Road 140 in North Perth, just after 1pm on Aug. 12.
Perth County OPP officials say a motorcycle collided with a passenger vehicle.
“As a result of the collision, the 36-year-old motorcycle driver from Drayton suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased after being transported to a local trauma centre,” police stated in a press release.
“The occupants of the passenger vehicle sustained minor injuries.”
Police say Perth Line 88 will be closed between Perth Road 146 and Sideroad 3 for several hours for the investigation.

Fires lead to arson, mischief charges
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Police say a 36-year-old Guelph resident is behind two recent fires at a Mill Road property on Aug. 15.
Jordan Cook has been charged with arson and mischief after allegedly starting a fire at a vacant property.
Wellington OPP said in a press release officers already on scene were alerted to a grass fire nearby on the same property.
Cook was identified “with assistance of members of the public” and located near the scene, according to the release.
The fires were extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
Police have charged Cook with arson and mischief damaging property.
He was being held in custody following an Aug. 15 bail hearing.
Police seek to identify theft suspects
FERGUS – Police have identified four suspects they say were involved in a theft here last week.
Wellington OPP officials say that on Aug. 10 at about 7:15pm, four suspects entered a business on St. David Street North in Fergus and stole about $300 worth of merchandise.
“The suspects then fled” in a white 2006 Toyota Matrix (license plate CWVV 701), police stated in an Aug. 13 press release.
The four suspects were originally described by police as follows:
– male with tanned skin, facial hair, dark curly hair and an average build, wearing a watch, grey shirt and dark pants;
– female with white skin, dark hair and average build, wearing glasses, a red shirt and grey skirt, with a large tattoo on her right thigh;
– male with white skin, dark hair and thin build, wearing a black shirt and large necklace; and
– male with white skin, dark hair and average build, wearing a black shirt with red logo, black pants and red shoes.
In a follow-up press release on Aug. 15, police announced they had identified the four suspects.
Road rage assault
WELLINGTON NORTH – Police are searching for two suspects after an Aug. 8 road rage incident on Main Street.
A confrontation escalated to a physical assault between a victim and two suspects, according to a Wellington OPP press release.
The victim sustained minor injuries.
The two suspects fled the scene before police arrived.
The suspects are described as: East Indian males with tanned skin, short black hair, and an average build. One suspect was wearing a white, sleeveless shirt with grey pants and black shoes.
The other suspect was wearing a dark shirt, black pants, ball cap and white shoes.
The suspects could have been driving a dark colour 2017 Nissan Sentra.
Business robbed of tools
WELLINGTON NORTH – An unidentified business on Durham Street West here had $20,000 worth of tools taken from a shipping container sometime between Aug. 16 and 18.
According to a Wellington OPP press release, suspects cut into the walls of the container and stole the tools.
Driver charged after rollover
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Fergus resident has been charged with careless driving after a vehicle attempting to pass others lost control and rolled into a ditch.
On Aug. 12 at about 5:45pm, emergency crews responded to a rollover off Wellington Road 26 in Guelph/Eramosa.
“Upon arrival, a motor vehicle was observed in a ditch, with all occupants safely outside,” stated a press release from the Wellington County OPP.
“It was alleged that the driver had been attempting to pass other motor vehicles in an unsafe manner when they lost control and veered off the roadway, resulting in a rollover and minor, non-life-threatening injuries.”
Police added no other vehicles were damaged.
A 26-year-old from Fergus was charged with careless driving and driving without a licence.
No seatbelt for child
FERGUS – A driver from Saskatchewan has been charged after failing to ensure their child was wearing a seatbelt.
Wellington OPP officials say police were conducting a RIDE program on Orangeville Road in Fergus on Aug. 13 at about 2:30pm.
Police stopped a vehicle and found a 12-year-old passenger was not wearing their seatbelt.
A 45-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan, was charged with driving with a passenger under age 16 who failed to properly wear a seat belt.
“This charge is accompanied by a $240 fine,” police stated.
Domestic violence
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.
Among those arrested include a 46-year-old from Guelph/Eramosa, who was charged with spousal assault in relation to an incident in Guelph/Eramosa on Aug. 10.
The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Speeding an issue during OPP’s long weekend traffic campaign
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police handed out more than twice the number of speeding tickets they did last year during their Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign.
From Aug. 1 to 4, Wellington OPP officers stopped 149 vehicles and laid 71 speeding charges, up from 32 in 2024.
According to an OPP press release, the campaign “targeted the negative driving behaviours that contribute to traffic collision deaths, injuries and property damage on our roadways (speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving).
“Police also enforced Ontario’s ‘move over law,’ which requires all drivers to slow down when approaching emergency vehicles with their emergency lights activated and, on highways/roads with more than one lane, move over a lane if safe to do so.”
During the campaign Wellington OPP officers made 149 stops in total and laid:
– 15 seatbelt charges (down from 19 last year);
– one distracted driving charge (down from four);
– two impaired driving charges (no change); and
– five for failing to move over (up from one).
Across the OPP’s West Region, officers conducted 1,801 traffic stops during the campaign (up from 1,716 in 2024) and laid:
– 625 speeding charges (down from 699 last year);
– 148 seatbelt charges (up from 108);
– 10 distracted driving charges (down from 16);
– 47 impaired driving charges (45 last year); and
– 19 fail to move over charges (12 in 2024).
Unsafe turn
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Local police have charged a Creemore driver in connection with a collision here last week.
Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 6 in Guelph/Eramosa on Aug. 8 at about 3:30pm.
Nobody was injured according to a Wellington OPP press release.
A 57-year-old from Creemore was charged with making an unsafe turn.
Rockwood resident charged
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Rockwood resident is facing four driving charges after being pulled over here last week.
Wellington OPP say officers made the traffic stop on Highway 7 in Guelph/Eramosa on Aug. 12 at about 8:30am.
A 42-year-old from Rockwood was charged with driving with a handheld communication device, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and driving without a permit.
The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
