ERIN – Police are once again warning county residents about scams after a resident was unsuccessfully targeted last week.
Wellington County OPP officials say police were called about an attempted fraud at an Erin home on Aug. 22 at about 11pm.
“An unknown suspect, posing as an agent from the Canada Revenue Agency, attended the home and presented the complainant a letter claiming that a family member had a company registered in their name and owed $25,000 in taxes,” police stated in an Aug. 25 press release.
“Fortunately, the complainant quickly recognized the fraudulent nature of the claim, declined to engage with the suspect, asked them to leave the property, and contacted police.”

Assault charges
MAPLETON – A local resident is facing assault and threat charges after an incident here last week.
Wellington County OPP officials say police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Drayton on Aug. 20 at about 11:45pm.
A 65-year-old Drayton resident has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault, and uttering threats (to cause death or bodily harm).
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Careless driving
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Guelph resident has been charged with careless driving in connection with a a four-vehicle crash here last week.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, on Highway 124 near Wellington Road 49 in Guelph/Eramosa, on Aug. 18 at about 5:30pm.
Wellington County OPP officials say one driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
A 25-year-old from Guelph was charged with careless driving.
