Phase one of the Erin Rotary Riverwalk Trail has been constructed, economic development officer Robyn Mulder told council on Jan. 16.

The contract for the project was awarded to Happy Trails Construction in the fall and phase one was completed in December. A viewing platform, expected to be completed in the spring, is the next part of trail construction.

Phase one includes part of the downtown loop. It extends down Church Boulevard from Main Street and follows the north bank of the West Credit Lower Pond.

The viewing platform will be located along that stretch.

Mulder said Credit Valley Conservation has been involved in the design of the viewing platform, which will be 16 feet wide at the viewing end and eight feet at the entrance end. It will extend eight feet over the edge of the riverbank.

“This will allow more viewers at the viewing end,” said she said.

Council approved the use of unspent funds from the 2017 budget to complete the project.
