Pennies from Little Angels support food bank this Christmas

It may not exactly be pennies from heaven, but the Centre Wellington Food Bank will benefit from pennies from Little Angels.

Lori Readyhaugh, supervisor of Little Angels Elora said the kids have been collecting money since the early of October.

“They did a penny drive.”

Readyhaugh noted that following an article in the Wellington Advertiser, it spawned even more community support.

“They started bringing in pennies as well.

“In change, we have raised $315 for the food bank.

As to the origin of the idea, Readyhaugh said the group doesn’t have the space to actually bring in food donations in to the daycare center

She added it is also a peanut-free facility, and by collecting money and donating it to the food bank, it can purchase the food most needed.

She added the kids are pumped up and ready for the Christmas season.

Fred Aleksandrowicz, Manager, Centre Wellington Food Bank  said the donation is wonderful.

“It’s what this community is all about, it’s all about giving. I’m always blown away with the caring, and now we have a small group of children who have saved some money for the food bank. It’s just awesome.

Carolyn Dakins, customer service manager of the Elora TD Canada Trust branch considered the donation fabulous.

“Every year, we help out the community with the food bank and the adopt-an-angel program, where they get together to buy gifts for the kids.

She noted the branch is doing the adopt-an-angel program again.

As soon as they get the hamper, they will be buying for a family in the community.

And seeing the efforts of the local youngsters, it just proves every penny does count.
