Paving program comes in well under budget

A tender for the repaving of eight roads in Wellington North has been awarded to the Murray Group of Moorefield at a cost of $528,000.

The township received five bids for the construction project, which had a combined budget of $709,000.

The streets that will be resurfaced this year are:

- Sideroad 3 West, Highway 6 to Wellington Road 6;

- Sideroad 7 West, Concession 9 to Concession 11;

- Bellefield Crescent, Eliza Street to Eastview Drive;

- Forest Glen Drive;

- Forest Glen Crescent;

- Church Street, Albert Street to dead end;

- Ayrshire Street, south of Highway 89; and

- Birmingham Street East, Main Street to Fergus Street.

Mayor Andy Lennox congratulated interim public works director Derek McCaughan at the July 10 council meeting.

“I think it’s great that we are keeping well within budget again,” he said.

Lennox added, “We’ve had a good run on that for that last two or three years on asphalt.”

The bids received were:

- The Murray Group, $527,903;

- Capital Paving, $565,512;

- Stead and Evans, $568,120;

- Brantco Construction, $641,959; and

Cox Construction, $652,481.
