Outdoor concerts at the museum

For the third summer, the Wellington County Museum and Archives is hosting a series of four musical evenings on Thursday nights in August.

This eclectic range of performances takes place on the grounds of the museum.

All performances begin at 7pm and admission for this series is by donation.

The series begins Aug. 7 with a nod to the Scottish traditions of the area; McCairley and Maclean will entertain with Celtic tunes on fiddle and guitar.

On Aug. 14 the Moore Brothers of Drayton will entertain with a variety of cover tunes. Be sure to attend and support the young developing talent in the county.

On Aug. 21 the popular sounds of Grand River Brass, perfect music for a summer evening in the garden.

The series will finish this summer on Aug. 28 with a performance from the acclaimed folk group, Same Latitude as Rome (SLAR).

Led by Fergus resident, Peter Boyle, SLAR has experienced growing success performing across the country in a variety of festivals and concert venues.

They performed two summers ago with music from their album 1812, and this year will feature new songs from their new album, Early Settlers.

The songs tell many stories from the past. SLAR was featured this year in the Canadian History magazine with a photo from their concert at the Wellington County Museum.

Mark Thursday evenings on your calendar, come early and set up your chair.

There is something very special about the sound of music being performed outdoors; it is a special opportunity not to be missed.

In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be held in the 1877 barn, with limited seating capacity.

Events are subject to change without notice, please call ahead to confirm.
