Organizers announce the event line up for 2022 2Rivers Festival

GUELPH – Wellington Water Watchers is proud to announce the event line up for the 2Rivers Festival 2022.

The 2Rivers Festival is held annually during the months of May and June to celebrate the Speed and Eramosa Rivers, which meet in the City of Guelph.

The 2Rivers Festival strives to connect the Guelph community with the city’s two rivers.

This year, things are going to look a little different but organizers say the celebrations, love and connections will all be the same.

In 2022, organizers are excited to host the 11th annual 2Rivers Festival.

The pandemic has put a wrench into a lot of plans for the past two years, and the current Omicron variant does not make things any more predictable, officials say.

As a result, the steering committee has decided to reduce the number of events this year and structure the festival to showcase the theme for 2022 – Reaching the River’s Edge.

“Our theme, Reaching the River’s Edge, encompasses an invitation to all community members to bring their stories and share together on the shores of these rivers – the pulsing vein of life through this landscape,” said Tamanna Kohi, board chair of the Water Watchers.

“In the past the 2Rivers Festival has focused predominantly on local ecology.

“As our collective awareness grows, so too grows the understanding of the need to learn more about the myriad intersectional issues that compound and exacerbate ecological problems. Whose stories have not been told?”

The river’s edge is a liminal space between water and land.

As the community reconsiders and reimagines the ways in which the 2Rivers Festival can be effective in increasing the overall health of this part of the watershed, this liminal space feels appropriate, organizers say.

Reaching the River’s Edge can be envisioned as a welcoming point on our journey – to stop, reflect and feel sustained – but also acknowledge that our journey is still continuing on.

Despite the change to limit events, organizers are pleased to announce there will be some exciting offerings lined up for the community that will deepen your engagement with the multitude of stories connected to these local waterways.
