OPP warn motorists to secure vehicles

The warm weather brings many people to the hiking trails throughout Wellington County.

Unfortunately, in the past criminals have taken advantage of this and smashed the windows of parked vehicles to grab the valuables inside, police report.

Last year at this time, County OPP investigated numerous thefts from vehicles where windows were smashed and valuables taken from parked vehicles near trails.

OPP want to remind residents to lock their vehicles,   leave valuables at home or place them in the trunk of their vehicles so they are safely out of sight of would-be criminals.

People using walking trails are requested to note any suspicious persons near trail entry points, to take note of any associated vehicles and licence plates, and contact the OPP at 1-888-310- 1122.
