OPP: Tall grass, crops “˜stalking”™ intersections

Officials with the OPP’ western region are reminding drivers in rural areas to take extra time and care at intersections this time of year.

“Corn stalks, bulrushes and other tall grasses running parallel to farm fields and at intersections are very high in many areas of the region,” police said in a recent press release.

“This natural beauty can become quite hazardous often times obstructing drivers views.”

Police say it is important to take a few extra seconds to stop and look in all directions before proceeding into an intersection.

In some cases, drivers may have to actually pull out a little further past the obstructions in order to be able to see clearly down the road.

Drivers should be mindful that natural obstructions can also make it difficult to see other drivers and pedestrians pulling out from driveways or walking across roadways, police say.

“Drive with extreme caution when approaching intersections or driveways, especially in rural areas this time of year,” states the OPP press release.

“Road safety is everyone’s business – make it yours.”
