OPP mum on investigation into Fergus deaths

Police have completed the investigation into the Dec. 21 deaths of Fergus residents Kimberly and Dwayne Nicklasson.

Yet despite obvious public interest in the high profile case, the OPP is not offering any details at all about what happened.

“At the request of the family, we won’t be releasing any more information so we don’t re-victimize those involved,” Wellington County OPP Inspector Scott Lawson told the Advertiser on Jan. 10.

He was responding to several requests for information  from the Advertiser following a Jan. 5 OPP press release that offered no new information.

“This was an isolated incident, police are not looking for suspect(s) and there is no threat to public safety,”  the release stated, adding “the investigation is now complete.”

Lawson reiterated that statement on Tuesday, adding only that the tragedy has had an enormous impact on the community.

Wellington County OPP officers went to check on the residents of a Fergus house on Sideroad 18 near Beatty Line on Dec. 21 at about 9:30am.

Upon arrival they discovered the bodies of a man and woman later identified as residents Kim and  Dwayne Nicklasson.
