OPP: “˜Islamic State messaging”™ painted on church

The OPP is investigating after “Islamic State” graffiti was found on the side of a church here last weekend.  

Police say that sometime between 2:30pm on Aug. 27 and 8:30am on Aug. 28 someone spray painted “Islamic State messaging” on the side of Lakeside Church on Conservation Drive in Guelph-Eramosa.

OPP Constable Josh Cunningham told the Advertiser “Islamic state will remai” [sic] was written on the school “in black spray paint with the last letter fading out.”

Wellington County OPP officers, along with the Wellington County Crime Unit, are investigating with assistance from Forensic Identification Services.

“The investigation is in (the) early stages so we are trying to determine what the motive was and who it was,” OPP Constable Marylou Schwindt stated in an email.

She added this is the first incident of its kind the OPP  has investigated recently.
