One hundred thousand poets

The Elora Poetry Centre will be participating in this year’s 100 thousand poets for change global initiative, to be held in over 650 locations.

The organizer of the annual event is Michael Rothenberg, a well-known San Francisco poet and editor of the journal Big Bridge.

The Elora event will include poetry readings by Jerry Prager, Morvern McNie, and Daniel Kolos, with traditional Canadian folk music by Muddy York (Anne Lederman and Ian Bell).

Jerry Prager’s long poem and Muddy York’s music will relate to the part that Beaver House, home of the Elora Poetry Centre, played in the Canadian Underground Railroad. The 1832 log house was moved to Centre Wellington about 30 years ago from Puslinch Township, where it had been built from a virgin forest by Nicholas Beaver, a Quaker abolitionist.

Readings will begin at 5pm, Sept. 27, at Beaver House, 7324 Wellington Rd. 21, Elora.

Admission is by donation. Light dinner and drinks will be provided. Members of the audience will be invited to read their own poems or perform music. For more information call 519-846-2551.
