GUELPH – A Brampton man has been arrested after a Guelph Police Service officer was briefly dragged while trying to stop a car last week.

“An officer arrived and found two of the males sitting in a black Mercedes, using his cruiser to block the car in,” police stated in a June 19 press release.
“The officer approached and asked the driver to hand him the keys. The driver held the keys towards the officer, but when he reached for them the driver suddenly reversed, momentarily dragging the officer who was not seriously injured.”
Police say the car drove around the cruiser and fled the parking lot “at high speed, but police were able to confirm the identify the driver.
A 40-year-old Brampton man was arrested in another jurisdiction and charged with dangerous driving, assault with a weapon and flight from police.
He is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
