Nurse practitioner, students choose Drayton for exercise

The residents of Drayton will be seeing some unfamiliar faces around their community over the next two months.

Nurse Practitioner students Jodi Colwill, Crystal Osborne, Sharon Moore, and Ann Marie O’Rielly will be taking the opportunity to complete a community assessment of the town of Drayton as a part of their educational program at McMaster University.

A community assessment is an exercise by which information is gathered on the current strengths, concerns, and conditions of a community.

The information comes from many sources and is elicited by many techniques, including interviews, surveys, focus groups, and scanning demographic data collected by local and government agencies. Community assessments focus on local assets, resources, and activities as well as gaps, barriers, or emerging needs.

The process of recognizing and evaluating this information will help identify areas to focus on when planning future growth and development strategies.

If community members wish to provide any information or concerns regarding the community of Drayton please contact Moore at smoor@np-eduction.ca or 519-396-7894 or O’Rielly at aorie@np-education.ca or 519-396-6292.
