Numerous events for the season at regional Grand River Conservation Areas

Nov. 10 – How to Not Get Lost in the Woods – Laurel Creek Nature Centre 2-4pm

Don’t let it happen to you. Start by learning how to use a compass and conquer the practice course. Then learn how to use a GPS unit. You will be sent out with a GPS to test your navigational skills. Can you make it back? Phone 519-885-1368 to pre-register. The cost is $5 for children under 18 years old and $10 for adults. Those 16 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Nov. 11 – The Best Dam Tour, Guelph Lake Nature Centre 2-4pm

Join us for a tour of the Guelph Lake Dam, and learn about flood control, the production of hydro-electric power, and how the dam helps to maintain water levels in the Grand River watershed. The cost is $5 for children under 18 years old and $10 for adults. Those 16 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Nov. 13 – Rural Landowners Workshop Farmers Plus, 21 Church Street West, Elmira

One of four workshops for rural non-farm landowners in Waterloo Region to learn how to better manage the natural features on their property. Learn about planting and maintaining trees, private well water supply, waste water and septic systems, natural shoreline buffers, wetland and pond management, wildlife habitat enhancement and more. The workshop will also include information on the grants and other support available for tree planting through the Trees for the Grand Program. Nov. 20 – Woolwich Farm Workshop, Farmers Plus, 21 Church Street W., Elmira

10:30am to 3pm

Free information day about the benefits of windbreaks and shelter belts on farms. An information session and tour of two local farms with lunch provided. This event is being jointly sponsored by Trees for Woolwich, the Woolwich Township and the GRCA. To register, call Ann at 519-669-6027.
