Not your average puppet show

Take a story that’s more than 3000 years old, with five characters, (one human, one mask and three puppets) all performed by one person, remove the traditional puppet stage and release the puppets into the audience, add original music, and it makes for some very exciting live theatre.

That’s just what Pandora’s Sox, the professional puppet company from Guelph, has done.

Their show Pandora’s Box: The Puppet Show takes to the stage at the Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh on June 15 at 2:30pm for one performance only and tickets are only $5.

Epi and Prometheus up until now have been enjoying paradise, but all that is about to change with the arrival of Pandora and her box. Chaos ensues and it’s now up to these three to try and find hope in the midst of this crisis.

Puppets in North America are typically seen as amusement for toddlers, but this puppet show, while for children, deals with subject matter beyond the toddler. The story of Pandora’s Box is told to explain why evil exists and there’s a puppet in this show who is definitely not appealing to small children, but lots of fun for older kids.

Jay Wilson, actor, puppeteer and creator of Pandora’s Sox, is a professional stage actor and member of the Ontario Puppetry Association and the Guelph Arts Council.

Pandora’s Box: The Puppet Show has toured the province playing in schools, festivals, theatres, libraries, and retirement homes.

Most of Pandora’s work includes a message of breath awareness as a means of reducing stress, finding stillness and calming the mind.

Pandora’s Box: The Puppet Show will be at the Century Church Theatre, 72 Main Street, Hillsburgh on June 15 at 2:30pm. Call the box office at 519-855-4586 to reserve.
