North Wellington Big Brothers Big Sisters group has fundraiser for women only

Who better deserves a day of fun and relaxation than a mother, caregiver, wife, or business woman?

That is part of what Just for Women, Just for Fun (JFW) is all about. It’s also a fundraising effort for Big Brothers Big Sisters North Wellington (BBBS) and is running for the third consecutive year here.

JFW is a day of fun and information for women only.

Participants choose three 1-1/2 hour professionally-led workshops from a selection of 30 that include work-out demonstrations, crafts, personal well-being, and growth seminars, relaxation techniques, and hair and makeup ideas.

It costs $80, and in addition to the workshops, includes a full lunch, refreshments, raffle prizes, and a silent auction. It takes place on April 10 at the Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest from 9am to 4pm.

JFW is the brain-child of Marianne Pope, caseworker for BBBS North Wellington.

“I can’t claim full credit – I based the idea on similar programs that I’ve attended for other organizations,” she said.

“The women have a great day of fun, get to try new things, and all the proceeds go towards funding BBBS programs in North Wellington.”

The workshop leaders have donated their time, and local restaurants, church groups, and grocery stores have provided lunch, snacks and refreshments.

Local businesses have donated all the prizes, including a Raleigh Mountain Bike valued at $300.

The first two events were huge successes, and a survey of participants convinced Pope to run the event again.

Each year, the most popular workshops are run again, provided the leaders can commit to the schedule.

To fresh, new workshops are added each year, based in part on suggestions from participants.

Caroline Beren, who will be the MC for the third year, and is also running a scrabble tournament workshop, “is delighted to be involved.”

Tickets are available until March 26.  Phone, 519-323-4273, fax 519-323-4359, download the registration form at bbbsnorthwellington.org (click on events), or email marianne_bbbs@wightman.ca.
