New truck, insurance RFP approved in Guelph-Eramosa

Guelph-Eramosa officials have decided to cut their losses and invest in a new tandem dump truck and plow one year early.

On Nov. 7 council voted unanimously in favour of the purchase of a new International truck for $200,651 (plus HST)from Altruck International Truck Centres.

The new vehicle, originally scheduled for purchase next year, will replace a 1999 Volvo truck that has cost the township over $38,000 in repairs since 2007.

“The truck, at this point, is non-operational. It’s broken down, sitting in the yard,” public works manager Mark Robertson told council.

Mayor Chris White said the early replacement, which will require a budget amendment, is “expensive … but this is a core service.”

Also at its meeting last week, council approved spending $7,000 to hire Robert Harder Insurance Consulting to perform a request-for-proposals on the township’s 2012 insurance program.
