New agreement needed for access to water towers

A new tower access agreement will need to be hammered out now that Barrett Xplore Inc. has taken over the former Everus Communications.

A recent works committee report to Wellington North council noted the changeover means new agreements are needed to use the antennas on the Arthur and Mount Forest water towers.

While Barrett provided the municipality with a generic agreement it uses with other municipalities, but the document still needs to be modified to meet local requirements.

The works committee recommended a $300 per month fee for each water tower and Barrett will have to supply confirmation that its staff is trained for climbing the towers.

Public Works Manager Gary Williamson expressed concern Barrett’s proposed agreement gives it the exclusive rights to operate on the towers.

The township’s lawyer will review the proposal and address those issues prior to it council approving it.

Williamson said the new company wants to get the new agreements in place within the next few months.

Councillor Ross Chaulk was concerned about sole access and exclusive rights.

Councillor John Matusinec said that is also an issue at the committee level.
