New $15,000 utility vehicle to help at Marden facility

A new “utility vehicle” will help with maintenance at township parks in the summer and also at the new recreation facility in Marden in the winter.

“Currently the township has a demo unit on loan from one of our commercial suppliers to allow us to conduct our routine turf maintenance at the Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre,” said parks and recreation manager Robin Milne.

He proposed purchasing a “small electric-powered utility vehicle,” at a cost of about $15,000, with the money coming from the parks and recreation development charges reserve fund, which has a current balance of over $486,000.

Milne told council the units he is looking at can cost up to $12,000, plus the extra options  he wants to add, such as seat belts, a roof and a roll bar.

He said he would go with the cheapest quote received, regardless of the make of the vehicle, and cited maintenance of the new Rockwood-to-Eden Mills trail as an example of how the unit could be used in the summer.

Council unanimously approved a resolution directing Milne to proceed with a request for quotes for a vehicle “valued at not more than $15,000.”
