Nature centre to unveil plans for new building

The Guelph Lake Nature Centre next weekend will offer free activities and a chance for the public to learn about plans for a new building on the site.

The centre will host an open house and reunion from noon to 4pm on Oct. 14. Centre officials say everyone is welcome, including past and present students. Activities at the event will include guided hikes and a predator-prey game.

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) plans to build a new $3-million centre to replace the current building, which is 33 years old.

Over the past 12 months close to $360,000 has been raised for the new centre and the GRCA will break ground when it has raised 75 per cent of the total cost. Over 20,000 visitors and students visit the centre annually.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the centre or on making a donation should contact Logan Walsh at lwalsh@grandriver.ca or 519-621-2763 ext. 2371.
