National Scouts-Guide Week celebrated locally

In celebration of Scout-Guide Week, local Scouts will be racing their Beaver Buggies, Kub Kars and Scouts Trucks at Stone Road Mall with events on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23.

The annual Wellington Area Scout Truck Rally offers Scouts (ages 11-14) and Venturer Scouts (ages 14-17) an opportunity to design, build and race miniature 18-wheel trucks. The honourary starter will be Frank Valeriote, a Member of Parliament. He will start the race at 7pm on Feb. 22. The annual Wellington Area Beaver Buggy Rally provides Beaver Scouts (ages 5-7) with the opportunity to design build and race miniature cars.

The honourary starter will be Guelph Mayor Karen Farbridge.

She will start the race at 11am on Feb. 23. The annual Wellington Area Kub Kar Rally provides Cub Scouts (ages 8-10) with the opportunity to design build and race miniature cars. 

The designated honourary starter Bryan Larkin, the Police Chief of Guelph, who get the race started at 1pm on Feb. 23.

Each of these rallies is about more than just racing; it promotes a sense of achievement and learning and is a fun and interactive way for youth to make new friends, while discovering the importance of creativity and imagination. 

Scout-Guide Week is from Feb. 17  to 24. It was created over  40 years ago to celebrate the birthdays of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement and his wife, the World Chief Guide, Lady Olave Baden-Powell.  For more information visit www.scouts.ca.
