Museum”™s Winterfest 2013 celebrates snow and cold

No need to hibernate.  Embrace the season and take part in three days of winter activities at the Wellington County Museum and Archives for the second annual Winterfest.

Outside, there is a wide range of family activities to enjoy, including snowshoeing, Frisbee golf and scavenger hunts throughout all three days.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and be ready to have some fun in the snow.

Indoors, opportunities abound to discover what residents of Wellington County did years ago to “keep warm” over the winter. The seasonal winter exhibits offer a chance to knit or play some indoor winter games.

Old standbys like sledding and skating will be popular too, participants are encouraged to bring your own skates and sleds,  weather permitting.

Have you ever wondered how big a miniature horse is?

On Saturday, Jan. 19, a mother and her foal will visit the museum and visitors will  be able to get up close and personal with these two adorable animals.

On Sunday, Jan. 20, learn about sled dogs with a  presentation on huskies and sledding offered by Irvinevalley Kennels at 1:30pm and 3pm, with rides ongoing throughout the rest of the afternoon.

On Monday, Jan. 21, visit us and learn about the creatures that live under the snow…come and discover the secrets of the Tomtems.

Admission is $5/person or $12.50/family per day.

Activities will be ongoing from 1pm – 4:30pm each day unless scheduled times are indicated.

Events are subject to change depending on the weather.
