Municipalities offer free trees as Green Legacy continues

In 2004 the Green Legacy was just a simple idea to plant 150,000 trees to celebrate Wellington County’s 150th anniversary. That idea has grown to over one million trees planted in the county by community partners, making it the largest municipal tree planting program in North America. The county fosters the local initiative by providing trees free of charge to its residents and community groups. Wellington County municipalities will be distributing trees for planting again this year.

Trees will be distributed on April 27 at:

– the Peel works garage in Mapleton from 8 to 10am; and

– the Puslinch Community Centre from 8 to 11:30am.

Trees will be distributed on May 4 at:

– Rockwood Fire hall and Marden Municipal garage beginning at 10am;

– Centre Wellington public works office in Elora from 8 to 10am;

–  Kenilworth public works yard from 9 to 11am;

– Minto municipal office from 9 to 11am; and

– Erin municipal works yard on Trafalgar Road from 9 to 11am.

Food bank donations will be accepted at distribution centres in Guelph-Eramosa, Centre Wellington, Mapleton, Minto, Puslich and Erin. Donations to the Arthur or Mount Forest horticultural societies will be accepted at the Wellington North location.
